Tottenham defender Danny Rose was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving in the early hours of Wednesday morning, but has since been released under investigation

Tottenham star Danny Rose has been released under investigation after being arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Rose, 30, was temporarily held at a police station in Northamptonshire after allegedly colliding with the central reservation of the A45.

A Northamptonshire Police spokesperson said: “We can confirm a 30-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving on the A45 in Northampton shortly after 4am today.

"The suspect is currently being held at a police station in the county and, as such, it would be inappropriate for Northamptonshire Police to comment further at this time."

After being cross-examined by medical staff and breathalysed, Rose was interviewed by the relevant authorities regarding the incident.

It remains unclear why he was in Northampton at the time of his arrest, which occurred 13 hours before Tottenham picked up a 3-1 win away at Stoke in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup.

Rose, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Newcastle, has been frozen out by Jose Mourinho since returning to Spurs and was not given a squad number for the 2020/21 campaign.

The England left-back’s £60,000-a-week contract is set to expire at the end of the season, meaning he will be free to begin negotiating a free move abroad in a week’s time.

He has spent the last 13 years as a Spurs player after joining from Leeds back in 2007, although the early stages of his time at the club involved heading out on loan to the likes of Watford, Peterborough, Bristol and Sunderland.

But after becoming a first-team regular in 2013/14, Rose has gone on to rack up a total of 214 appearances for the north London outfit, playing a key part in their run to the 2018/19 Champions League final.
