St Blazey AFC of Cornwall are facing an investigation from the local Football Association after video footage of their rule-breaking Christmas party made its way onto social media

A football club is under fire after hosting a Covid-dodging team party - which saw them booted out of an AirBnB.

Cornwall-based St Blazey AFC have had two fixtures cancelled, with the official line being that it is "due to a Covid issue with the St Blazey squad".

But the cancellation of the fixtures comes just days after the team were pictured and filmed having a team party, despite coronavirus restrictions.

Furious residents were filmed raging at a man who claimed to be one of the team's managers, who was told that the police were on the way.

In the footage, the man says that he will get people to leave and turn the music down, but the residents claimed that they had been asking for hours.

The area was under Tier 1 restrictions at the time the party took place, but the gathering was still prohibited under guidance.

An investigation has been launched into the football club by Cornwall Football Assoication.

Richard Pallot, from the Cornwall FA, told CornwallLive : “There is an investigation open regarding what led to the cancellations and the circumstances around it.

"I can’t say too much more at the moment but I’m waiting for replies and information from the relevant people. We need to establish exactly why the game was cancelled.”

A short statement from the South West Peninsula Football League said: “The league board are aware of accusations concerning the reasons for postponement of two St Blazey games over the Xmas period. We are aware of a Cornwall FA investigation and will await that to conclude before making any decisions on league games.”

League secretary Phil Hiscox added further: "I am aware of accusations, etc, and am assisting Cornwall County FA who have the duty to deal with misconduct and bringing the game into disrepute, etc.

"When they have concluded any investigation and any charges then the league will make a ruling on whether those games in question are played at a later date, or awarded as wins to the innocent parties (St Austell and St Dennis). The league can also deduct points, but only Cornwall FA can fine or suspend clubs or individuals."

St Blazey AFC declined to comment when contacted by the Daily Star.

The director of the Airbnb accommodation told CornwallLive that they do not wish to comment.
