Tottenham have announced the signing of Wales defender Joe Rodon from Swansea City.

Tottenham have completed the signing of Joe Rodon from Swansea City. Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho wanted to recruit a centre-back this summer and has left it right until the final stages of the domestic window to get a deal completed. Rodon has signed a long-term contract, with reports claiming the fee is an initial £11million with a further £4m in add-ons.

Tottenham were unable to replace the departed Jan Vertonghen in the international transfer window.

So Mourinho pursued Wales international Rodon before Friday's 5pm domestic deadline.

Tottenham had a bid of £7m turned down by Swansea earlier this month, with the Championship side initially holding out for £18m.

However, a compromise of a fee potentially rising to £15m has been reached.

Rodon has made 54 first-team appearances for Swansea since making his debut in 2018.

He has won seven caps for Wales and started all three of his country's matches in the recent international break.

Rodon will wear the No 14 shirt for Spurs.

Meanwhile, former Everton left-back Andy Hinchcliffe believes there were not many better options available at the age of 22 than Rodon.

And the pundit claims there are similarities to England legends Rio Ferdinand and John Terry.

He’s right up there in terms of position for his age,” Hinchcliffe told Sky Sports.

I think what you tend to do with young centre-halves is look at the greats of the Premier League. You look at Rio Ferdinand and John Terry and there are elements of both in Rodon’s game.

What I want from a centre-half is someone who loves to defend.

"Yes, they can play, but they don’t just like defending, they really want to defend – they want to get in the line of fire, they want to stop the opposition scoring.

That’s what we see with Rodon. When the ball is there to be won, he wins it.”
