Striker Stephen Humphrys could make his second Rochdale debut as Portsmouth visit the Crown Oil Arena in Sky Bet League One.
Dale’s new signing from Southend, who had a loan at Dale two years ago, was cup-tied for the Carabao Cup loss to Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday.
Defender Ryan McLaughlin could return to the side after being rested in midweek.
On-loan Manchester City defender Yeboah Amankwah is pushing to make his first league appearance as he builds up his match fitness.
Portsmouth defender Jack Whatmough is expected to be fit for the clash.
Whatmough hobbled off in the second half of Thursday’s loss at Brighton with a dead leg but manager Kenny Jackett played down the seriousness of the problem.
Paul Downing could be recalled if Whatmough is not risked.
Goalkeeper Alex Bass, who has been unavailable for the last three games with an ankle injury, will be assessed.
