Chelsea legend John Terry has given his seal of approval to the club over the signing of Thiago Silva.

Silva, 35, has penned a one-year deal at Stamford Bridge after departing Paris St-Germain upon the expiry of his contract.

The Brazil centre-back helped Thomas Tuchel’s side reach the Champions League final last Sunday, where they suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Bayern Munich.

Yet his failure to sign a new deal in Paris allowed Frank Lampard to snap him up on a free transfer and bolster his backline ahead of the 2020/21 campaign.

Some have questioned whether Silva, who turns 36 in just over three weeks’ time, is no longer at the peak of his powers.

However, former Chelsea centre-back and captain Terry believes old team-mate Lampard has got his hands on a top player.

The 39-year-old commented on Chelsea’s Instagram unveiling of Silva and said: “What a signing this is”.

Lampard is masterminding a squad revamp at Chelsea this summer, having already forked out £140million to sign Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner and Ben Chilwell.

Reports also suggest Bayer Leverkusen ace Kai Havertz will complete a £90million move to the Bridge over the next few days.

And Silva is over the moon to be a part of the Blue revolution.

After sealing his free transfer, the veteran said: “I am so happy to be joining Chelsea. I am delighted to be a part of Frank Lampard’s exciting squad.

“I’m here to challenge for honours and I look forward to playing at Stamford Bridge very soon.”

“Having performed at the highest level for many years, we have no doubt his experience and quality will complement the many exciting talents we already have here.

“Thiago will be an excellent fit and we hope he can add some new trophies to his impressive list of honours.”
