Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne had a stunning season.

Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne has won the Premier League Player of the Season award. The Belgium international beat Liverpool trio Jordan Henderson, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Sadio Mane to the award.

De Bruyne had a stunning season under Pep Guardiola as City finished second behind champions Liverpool.

The midfielder ended the season with 20 assists, equalling Thierry Henry's Premier League record set in 2003.

He also scored 13 goals, with two of his strikes being nominated for the Goal of the Season award, which was won by Tottenham's Son Heung-min.

As well as seeing off Liverpool trio Henderson, Mane and Alexander-Arnold, De Bruyne beat Southampton's Danny Ings, Burley stopper Nick Pope and Leicester star Jamie Vardy to the award.

De Bruyne's victory ended Liverpool's hopes of dominating the end-of-season awards.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp was named the manager of the season, while Alexander-Arnold picked up the Young Player of the Season award.

City were hoping to bounce back from losing the Premier League title against Liverpool by winning the Champions League.

Guardiola's men faced Lyon in their quarter-final clash on Saturday night.

However, City were stunned in Portugal, as De Bruyne and co lost 3-1.

De Bruyne scored in the clash, however, City's Champions League woes continue.

City have been knocked out at the quarter-final stage for the last three seasons.

Guardiola remained defiant after their exit on Saturday night, with the Spaniard insisting City will bounce back.

He said: "Now, yes, but after the break and when we start the competition again we will recover, we will restart it again. And, you know, to try to do it again.

"Of course, I'm not able with these guys to break this line to the quarter-finals. So three years in a row and we are out.

"I think what these guys has done we deserve to do it again, or to go through and reach the semi-finals, but we are not able.

"But life is, is how you stand up again and next season we're going to try again."
