Liverpool fans have been out celebrating since the club were confirmed as Premier League champions.

Liverpool football club have released a joint-statement with they Merseyside Police and City Council urging fans to stop celebrating in the region. Liverpool were confirmed Premier League champions on Thursday evening after Chelsea beat Manchester City 2-1.

The Premier League win comes 30 years after their last title, sparking wild celebrations.

Videos of the Liverpool players such as Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold along with manager Jurgen Klopp and the club's staff celebrating at a golf club soon emerged on social media as they partied into the early hours of the morning.

But Klopp also gave a clear message to fans to respect social distancing with the coronavirus pandemic still posing a risk and refrain from celebrating in the streets of Liverpool.

That request though has been ignored my some who have taken to the streets of Liverpool with thousands seen celebrating wildly in front of Anfield.

They have since flocked to the Pier Head with a video emerging on social media of the Liver Building being stuck by a flare.

Now the club have released a statement, along with the police and Liverpool's City Council condemning the actions of those celebrating.

The statement read: "Throughout the last week, Liverpool Football Club, Merseyside Police, Liverpool City Council and Spirit of Shankly have worked together to consistently remind people that the region is still disproportionately affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and ask people to celebrate LFC’s Premier League title win safely.

"Several thousand people turned up at the Pier Head on Friday June 26 and some chose to ignore the social distancing guidance and risk public safety.

"Our city is still in a public health crisis and this behaviour is wholly unacceptable.

"The potential danger of a second peak of COVID-19 still exists and we need to work together to make sure we don’t undo everything that has been achieved as a region during lockdown.

"When it is safe to do so, we will all work together to arrange a victory parade when everyone can come together to celebrate. Until that time, the safety of our city and our people continues to be our number one priority."

Liverpool Mayor Joe Anderson has also come out and said he has been left devastated by the scenes in the city centre last night.

"I actually have been quite emotional, I was in tears at one point watching some of those scenes," he said.

"I spent a lot of yesterday talking about what an incredible achievement this was for Liverpool FC and what it means for the city.

"And the vast majority of fans did the right thing and celebrated at home - but sadly this has been undermined by the actions of some.

"We wanted to tell everyone the story of what Liverpool FC has achieved - but sadly we have woken up to negative headlines about the city, I'm, just exhausted by it to be honest."
