It means Coventry and Rotherham will go up from League One, while Wycombe replace Peterborough in the play-off places, with Tranmere, Southend and Bolton relegated

Clubs in League One and Two have voted to abandon their seasons now due to the Covid-19 crisis.

The decision was made following an EFL board meeting and both tables will be settled on points per game, while promotion, relegation and the play-offs all remain.

It means Coventry and Rotherham will go up from League One, while Wycombe replace Peterborough in the play-off places. Tranmere, Southend and Bolton will be relegated, with the Trotters facing the prospect of being in the third tier of English football for only the second time in their history.

Swindon are League Two champions and will be promoted alongside Crewe and Plymouth, whose manager Ryan Lowe posted a picture of some champagne on social media.

But 'ongoing disciplinary matters' mean it is not yet certain who will drop out of the EFL and into the National League.

Stevenage are bottom, but they could yet be reprieved after Macclesfield Town were handed a fresh EFL misconduct charge at the start of this month and could still be hit with a points deduction.

The Silkmen, who are three points above Stevenage, have already had 11 points deducted for previous rule breaches this season and have a further suspended two-point penalty hanging over them if they transgress again.

No dates have been confirmed for the League One play-offs, but the EFL confirmed that the League Two play-off final would take place at Wembley on June 29.

The news came after it had emerged all EFL clubs had earlier agreed to retain promotion, relegation and the play-offs if the season had to be curtailed.

EFL chairman Rick Parry said: "The board has endeavoured to listen to all views and alternative approaches, but understands that the decisions taken will not be met with universal satisfaction from all clubs.

"Today's outcome ensures that the league and its clubs remains as faithful as possible to the previously agreed regulations and that there is consistency in the approach adopted across the EFL in all divisions if required."

No decision on when the 2020/21 EFL season will start has been taken.

Professional football has been suspended since March 13 due to the virus, although the Premier League and Championship have both committed to resuming their seasons later this month.
