Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has been backed to spend this summer.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has been tipped to sign Wolves star Adama Traore by pundit Noel Whelan. Reports this week claimed Klopp is eyeing the winger ahead of the summer transfer window.

Traore is said to be tempted by a move to Anfield, however, Wolves could demand around £50m for the 24-year-old.

The former Aston Villa ace would struggle to force his way into Klopp's starting XI ahead of Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.

However, Whelan reckons Traore would be content on being a squad player under Klopp, adding he'd be a hit at Anfield.

When asked whether Traore would be open to joining Liverpool, Whelan told Football Insider: “Traore really has developed his game. He has been fantastic this season and he seems like the complete player now.

"A lot of teams are looking at him, not just Manchester City.

"He has pace, power, strength and he now has end product. He is using his brain a bit better.

"It does not surprise me and I do not think he would mind being a squad player at Liverpool at first.

"I think he would get the bit between his teeth and want to force one of the three out.”

Liverpool were expected to sign RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner this summer.

However, Chelsea look set to sign the Germany international after Liverpool pulled out of the race.

And Klopp says Liverpool's decision is down to a lack of funds due to the coronavirus pandemic.

"All clubs are losing money," he said. "How do I discuss with the players about things like salary waivers and on the other hand buy a player for £50-60m — we’d have to explain.

"If you want to take it seriously and run a normal business you depend on income.

"And we have no idea how much the club will earn — especially because we don’t know when we can start playing in front of spectators again.

"At the moment, without spectators, we have to pay back on season tickets and probably sell none next year. At least maybe the first 10 or 15 games. VIP areas won’t be packed and tickets won’t be sold."

Meanwhile, ex-Reds ace Michael Owen claims Firmino, Salah and Mane's fine form would have seen Werner struggle to get game time.

"That's the problem," Owen told Premier League Productions.

"Liverpool gave Divock Origi a long-term contract not so long ago… they’ve almost nailed their colours to the mast in terms of, 'Right, he’s our back-up in case anyone gets injured'.

"Werner is a top player and I think if Klopp had the choice to have Werner come in as that fourth striker then absolutely he would.

"But you’ve got to balance it in terms of where we are financially at the moment and I just think that probably Chelsea need him more.

"I think he’d love to go to Liverpool but I think Chelsea at this minute need him more and are willing to go that extra step."
