Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is closing in on a transfer deal for RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner.

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has pulled off quite a coup with Timo Werner. The RB Leipzig star is closing in on a move to Stamford Bridge having initially looked set to join Liverpool in this summer’s transfer window. But, for Tammy Abraham and Michy Batshuayi, it will come as a blow.

Chelsea boss Lampard has acted swiftly, with the Blues now poised to land Werner when the transfer window reopens this summer.

The RB Leipzig star has been in sensational form this season, scoring 31 goals from 40 matches across all competitions.

For a long time it looked as if Werner would be on his way to Liverpool. But Chelsea, kings at getting transfers done under the radar, are now on the cusp of a blockbuster deal.

Many around the club are buzzing about what the German could bring to Lampard’s side.

He certainly looks set to be the deadliest striker Chelsea have seen since Diego Costa, who left west London for Atletico Madrid two years ago.

And the prospect of Werner linking up with Hakim Ziyech, who agreed to join the Blues in January, is certainly mouthwatering.

It appears to be a good time to be a Chelsea supporter again.

But, for Abraham and Batshuayi, it will come as a blow to their chances of being Lampard’s main man.

Abraham has enjoyed a solid season as Chelsea’s No 1 striker since returning from a loan spell with Aston Villa last summer.

Certainly, 15 goals from 34 matches is nothing to be sniffed at. And 13 in 25 Premier League matches is impressive, too.

But Lampard likes to play with just one striker at Chelsea, relying on the three players around the marksman to come up with the goods.

And with Werner now primed to join, it looks as if Abraham’s time as Lampard’s golden boy is coming to an end.

He returned to Stamford Bridge last summer, rather than departing, because he was assured of regular minutes.

But that promise now looks set to be broken with Werner likely to oust him as Lampard’s No 9 on a regular basis.

For Batshuayi, it is also a transfer deal that will likely signal an end to his time with the west London side.

Like Abraham he returned from a loan spell at the start of the campaign - heading back from Crystal Palace.

He’s spent the majority of his time back at Chelsea stuck on the bench. A meagre return of six goals from 24 games isn’t good enough, either.

And with Abraham set to take his place on the bench, Batshuayi is likely to be sold by Lampard at the end of the campaign.

As for Olivier Giroud? Well his fate has already long been sealed, with Chelsea deciding he can go back in the New Year.

Werner is a signing Chelsea fans deserve to celebrate.

But Abraham and Batshuayi can be forgiven for fearing for their Stamford Bridge futures as a result of the move.
