Arsenal have not offered Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang a new contract to remain at the Emirates beyond 2021, despite reports from France stating fresh terms have been tabled. Aubameyang's future is a major dilemma for the Gunners, with the current agreement of the club's most valuable player expiring in a year's time.

Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Inter Milan are among the many sides across Europe linked with the Gabon international, who had been valued at around £50million prior to the coronavirus pandemic.

And with the repercussions of COVID-19-enforced break having taken its financial toll on the north London club, it is widely expected Aubameyang will leave this summer.

Arsenal look unlikely to be able to offer the kind of financial incentives Aubameyang may require to stay under Mikel Arteta's stewardship in the English capital.

That's because on the pitch they have not played in the Champions League since the 2016-17 campaign, which has also impacted the club's finances.

And as Arsenal get to grips with what funds they will have for the summer transfer window, it is claimed no attempt to extend Aubameyang's stay has yet been made - though Arteta has made it clear he wants the 30-year-old to stay under any circumstances.

French football expert Julien Laurens tweeted: "Arsenal have not offered Aubameyang a new deal. @ESPNFC."

Former Arsenal striker Jeremie Aliadiere believes Aubameyang must be sold if they can't get him to put pen to paper on a new deal.

"They’ve got to sell him, 100 per cent," Aliadiere told Goal.

"Arsenal can’t keep losing players on a free. To be honest, I still can’t believe we’ve again got a top player, our captain, going into the summer only having one year left on his contract.

"For me, it has to be sorted when he gets to two years. Last summer he should have signed a deal or been sold.

"Because when you get down to one year left, in a player’s mind there is a difference.

"If I was Aubameyang and I knew I only had one year left, I would sacrifice one year of my career to go on a free and get paid a ridiculous amount of money and have all the clubs in the world chasing me. Who wouldn’t?

"That’s why I just think it’s wrong management yet again.

"It should be sorted at two years. You should not let a player end up with a year left on his contract, especially a player like Aubameyang.

"It’s not right. I just think players are playing on it, they keep letting negotiations drag on and the next thing you know, he’s just got one year left.

"And now, how much are we going to sell him for with one year left?

"Arsenal are in the worst position you can imagine again because you’ve got a top quality player who assures you of 20-25 Premier League goals a season who is one year away from leaving on a free.

"Or, he gets sold to Barcelona or Real Madrid and for what? How much can you expect for him now?

"Nothing compared to what if you’d sold him last summer. They could have asked for £100million."

Meanwhile, another current Arsenal star whose contract situation is uncertain is David Luiz, whose current deal expires at the end of the month.

The Gunners have an option to tie Luiz down for an extra year but are struggling for finances and may be required to take a hit to his wages of around £120,000 a week.

The 33-year-old Brazil international, signed for £8million from Chelsea last summer, could instead be offered a deal with a lower basic salary full of incentives.

Luiz's agent Kia Joorabchian told talkSPORT on Monday: "What disappoints me is that there’s a lot of speculation, a lot of talk about David, and the fact of the matter is David has been very clear that he is very happy at Arsenal.

“He has very much enjoyed his time there, especially since Mikel has arrived. It looks like they have a very clear plan on how they want to take the club to the next level.

“David did an interview with Ian Wright where he said he’s extremely excited, the club is going in the right way, the philosophy and mentality right through the club is changing, and I think Mikel has enforced a philosophy that David really believes in – ‘we’re all one inside the club’.

“What’s happened is that David had a contract with Arsenal and during the pandemic there has been no discussions about contracts, renewals or anything.

“We haven’t discussed that contract and we always agreed that the most important thing at the moment is to get football back and finishing the current season, that is a very important step to stake as the first step.

“David signed a one-year contract with the option to extend and unfortunately the option to extend happened right in the middle of the pandemic.

“Now we’re all coming out of this period, the players have just returned to training, and slowly , slowly before the season starts I’m sure we’ll deal with this matter at a good time.

“David has never said he doesn’t want to stay, or that he wants to leave, or anything.

“He thinks the club has a huge, huge prospect and he wants to win trophies. David has always been about winning trophies, all his career he’s done nothing but win trophies, everywhere he’s gone he’s won every title there is to win, and now he wants to do it.

“He took on the Arsenal project into his heart, he wants to go forward and he wants to win trophies, he doesn’t want to leave in a season where he has not won anything.”
