Manchester United could face a stand-off with Alexis Sanchez over his return to Old Trafford from a loan spell at Inter Milan.

Manchester United could face a problem with Alexis Sanchez when his loan contract expires with Inter Milan on June 30. The Red Devils expect the former Arsenal man to return to Old Trafford after that date.

Football across Europe has been suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic.

That could mean the Premier League being completed well into the summer in July or August potentially.

At present there is no resolution in place for player contracts which usually run until June 30 so United will expect Sanchez to return when his loan agreement with Inter expires.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could even select the Chile star as he pushes to leapfrog Chelsea and qualify for next season’s Champions League.

United are ready to give Sanchez another chance at the club despite his dismal form since making a transfer from Arsenal in January 2018.

The Daily Star claim the 31-year-old is keen to stay in Italy though and finish the Serie A campaign with Inter Milan.

Sanchez would rather extend his loan deal than make a return to United which could lead to a big stand-off between club and player.

Italian clubs have been given permission to resume training this month and Sanchez wants to stay put even though Inter are not expected to make a move to sign the flop permanently.

Injuries and indifferent form have hampered Sanchez who has failed to make much of an impression while at Inter.

Sanchez has made just two Serie A stars since he made the loan switch in August.

United know they face a big problem in trying to get rid of Sanchez with his incredible £500,000-a-week wages a major stumbling block.

It leaves them with little option but to recall him and hope the forward can rediscover his best form.

Meanwhile, Odion Ighalo may have played his last game for the club given the COVID-19 crisis.

The striker joined United on-loan from Shanghai Shenhua in January, but the deal expires at the end of the month.

Marcus Rashford is returning to full fitness following a stress fracture of the back and the club are expected to opt against signing Ighalo permanently.

The former Watford man did impress in his short spell at the club, netting four goals in eight appearances.
