Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho has convinced Paris Saint-Germain full-back Thomas Meunier to join the club in the summer transfer window.

Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho has personally called Paris Saint-Germain full-back Thomas Meunier over making a transfer to the club in the summer transfer window. The Special One is desperate to sign the 28-year-old.

Mourinho has a lack of right-back options with Serge Aurier inconsistent for Spurs.

Meunier is out of contract at the end of the season and has yet to be offered new terms by the French champions.

He has many suitors across Europe with the likes of Borussia Dortmund also interested in his signature.

French outlet L’Equipe say Tottenham have major interest in the player with Mourinho making a phone call to him about a move to London.

The reports say Meunier told Mourinho of his desire to play for Spurs and he was won over by the conversation he had with the Portuguese.

Although the former Real Madrid and Manchester United manager seems to have struck an agreement with the Belgian there is one obstacle he still needs to overcome.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has yet to sanction any deal and has his doubts over the signing.

Meunier seems like a viable option for Spurs as he would be available on a free transfer at the end of the season.

Meanwhile, United chief Ed Woodward believes clubs may not spend as they would have before the coronavirus crisis.

“Nobody should be under any illusions about the scale of challenge facing everyone in football,” said Woodward.

“It may not be 'business as usual' for any clubs, including ourselves, in the transfer market this summer.

“As ever, our priority is the success of the team, but we need visibility of the impact across the whole industry, including timings of the transfer window, and the wider financial picture, before we can talk about a return to normality.

“On this basis, I cannot help feeling that speculation around transfers of individual players for hundreds of millions of pounds this summer seems to ignore the realities that face the sport.

“It's also important to acknowledge the part played by our successful business in allowing us to fulfil our social responsibilities.

“We have always believed that our commercial model gives us greater resilience than most clubs and we are grateful for the enduring support of our commercial partners in helping us achieve that.”
