PSG enter race to sign Achraf

Achraf Hakimi is one of many Real Madrid loanees who must decide whether they are to fight for a place at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu or move on in search of regular minutes, but one club that has taken an interest in the versatile Moroccan is Paris Saint-Germain.

The 21-year-old is in the second year of a two-year loan spell at Borussia Dortmund, and he has plenty of offers on the table if he is to depart Real Madrid in the summer.

As MARCA revealed on Monday, too, there is a debate taking place within Real Madrid about what to do with Achraf, who has a contract with the club until 2023.

PSG are on the search for a right-back as everything indicates that Thomas Meunier will move on when his contract expires on June 30, while PSG sporting director Leonardo has Achraf at the top of his wish list, according to reports in France.

In addition, Foot Mercato state that Achraf would be open to a move to the French capital.

The problem for PSG is that they must compete with Dortmund, who want the player to stay at the club for one more season before returning to the Bernabeu, although this needs the approval of Real Madrid.

If Los Blancos were to cash in on Achraf, though, PSG's biggest threat would likely come from Bayern Munich.

Before the coronavirus crisis, Real Madrid had looked at the 80 million euro fee Bayern paid for Lucas Hernandez last summer and came to the decision that Achraf's fee wouldn't be far off that.

However, no one dares to predict what the transfer market might look like in the summer now.

Yet, should Achraf believe that he can play a significant role for Real Madrid upon his return, he may make the decision to fight Dani Carvajal for a spot in Zinedine Zidane's starting XI, a coach who has a lot of faith in him.
