Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has dropped a hint on his future with the likes of Barcelona and Manchester United linked with a transfer for the forward.

Arsenal forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has dropped a hint he could sign a new contract at the club. The Gunners striker has been linked with a summer transfer to Barcelona or Manchester United.

The Gabon international has just over a year to run on his current contract at Arsenal and has yet to sign a new deal.

If Aubameyang doesn’t agree to stay at the Emirates he could leave on a free transfer in 2021.

But on social media in a conversation with Kevin-Prince Boateng the 30-year-old was asked directly about his future.

In a joint Instagram live video, former Tottenham ace Boateng says: "They're [fans commenting on the stream] all saying you should sign a new deal with Arsenal."

Aubameyang replies: "Ah, yeah. I know," to which Boateng asks: "How long do you have left?"

The Arsenal captain goes on to explain: "One year," before casually answering: "Sure, sure..." with a laugh when asked again whether he will be remaining with the Gunners.

Earlier this month Aubameyang talked about where his future may be amid speculation he will leave Arsenal.

"I try to always be ready, whatever happens. I am a guy who tries to be always ready," he told the Premier League.

"I love the fans here and when I was younger I used to watch Arsenal because they had always great players, and yeah they won trophies as well.

"So I think it's really a pleasure to be here, I'm really happy. I think that's the feeling."

Former Arsenal striker Alan Smith believes the Gunners would need to sign a proven goalscorer to replace Aubameyang if he does leave the club.

"It's asking a lot of Nketiah or Martinelli, as talented as they both are, to step into the shoes of a tried-and-tested goalscorer like Aubameyang, who has been playing at the top level for a lot of years," he told Sky Sports.

"If Aubameyang did leave I'm sure they would be looking to bring some experience in but they are restricted by their finances. They've also got Alexandre Lacazette but his goal output has tailed off this season compared to his first at the club, so that would be a concern.

"But there's no question they've got talent inside the club. I'm a big fan of Martinelli in particular. I think he's got a great attitude and a wonderful eye for goal as we've seen on a number of occasions already.

"There's definitely a lot to come from him but you have to be careful you don't put too much responsibility on young shoulders. They need to be nurtured."
