Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho needs to resolve a key transfer problem that Spurs have had for a number of years; he needs to sign a back-up striker to Harry Kane. We assess the best options available to Mourinho for the summer window, including Rangers' Alfredo Morelos, Southampton's Danny Ings, and Wolves' Diogo Jota.

Tottenham have been reliant on Harry Kane in the No 9 position for a number of years now. But Jose Mourinho needs to find a reliable back-up for the striker, as Spurs have been caught off far too often whenever Kane gets injured.

This season has shown more than ever how reliant Tottenham are on their talisman.

Kane picked up a hamstring injury on New Year's Day against Southampton, and he's yet to return to the team.

A catalogue of injury problems meant that Mourinho was left without any first-team strikers for the Champions League clashes against RB Leipzig; a tie that Spurs were subsequently well-beaten in.

However, the manager has ruled out a major transfer overhaul of his squad, despite the 4-0 aggregate defeat.

“I don’t think we will have a big rebuild, this summer, unless something happens during the Euros,” said Mourinho.

“We have Sissoko back, we have Kane, we have Son… That is massive.”

Tottenham should prioritise signing a new number two striker this summer.

Some of the best, affordable choices out there - and bear in mind that 'affordable' today, isn't 'affordable' 10 years ago - include Alfredo Morelos, Danny Ings and Diogo Jota.

Alfredo Morelos

Rangers striker Morelos has been tipped for a move away from Ibrox for a number of months now.

The Colombian 23-year-old has consistently scored goals in the Scottish Premiership, and has been linked with a move to Liverpool.

But Mourinho should hijack the move for Morelos, as he would be a superb second striker.

He'd likely want the opportunity to learn from Kane, while also being given the chance to cement his place in the Premier League and Champions League.

Danny Ings

Southampton's star striker has been in excellent form this season.

He's scored 15 league goals from just 23 starts in the league, and has almost single-handedly got the Saints out of relegation trouble.

Keep Ings fit, and he'd be an excellent addition to Spurs' squad.

He may fancy the chance to play at the top level again, after his spell at Liverpool was blighted with injury.

Diogo Jota

Wolves star Jota arrived at Molineux in 2018 for ï¿¡13million, and has since his value soar since then.

The 23-year-old has enjoyed his first two campaigns in the Premier League, and has scored a mammoth six goals in three Europa League starts.

Jota has been moved out to a left-sided wing position to give favour to Raul Jimenez, and he may be tempted by a move if he's promised a centre-forward role.

The Portugal international is enjoying his spell at Wolves, and Mourinho would likely have to work his magic to seal a move for Jota.
