ARSENAL have confirmed Mikel Arteta is "feeling much better" after being struck down by coronavirus.

The Gunners boss remains in self-isolation at home, but is working with the coaches and is in regular contact with his players.

The whole first-team squad, coaches and support staff were placed in quarantine for 12 days after the boss tested positive.

Earlier this week, Arteta's wife took to Instagram to confirm the Spaniard was "doing fine."

And Arsenal have now confirmed on their website that the 37-year-old is on the road to recovery.

A statement read: "A number of staff, including Mikel and the men's first team squad, are currently isolating at home.

"We're pleased to say that Mikel is feeling much better.

"He's in good spirits, doing detailed planning with the coaches and speaking to the players regularly."

Arsenal's players have been provided with specific training and dietary regimes to keep them busy while at home.

The club's women's and academy teams will also remain at home until further notice.

After Arteta tested positive for the virus, the training centres in London Colney and Hale End were closed for deep cleaning.

Arsenal are doing their best to help the local community in the battle against coronavirus - which has caused 137 deaths in the UK.

The North London club revealed their staff have volunteered to chat to with the elderly locals that have been left feeling isolated.

Their statement continued: "We are liaising with the local authority with the local authority and the areas being explored range from providing online coaching and teaching, and staff volunteering to have regular phone contact with elderly local people feeling isolated."
