Former Tottenham star Christian Eriksen has been staying at a hotel since joining Inter Milan in January but the coronavirus pandemic has forced him to leave

The ongoing coronavirus outbreak has reportedly forced Christian Eriksen to leave the hotel he has been staying in since signing for Inter Milan .

Italy have been hit hard by COVID-19 and, with the country currently in lockdown, extra precautions aimed at preventing the spread of the virus have seen the hotel where Eriksen was residing vacated, according to a report from Sport .

Inter have since provided the Denmark international with an apartment, with Eriksen currently in ‘preventative isolation’ for 14 days.

The death toll in the country has risen to 1,809, with the Serie A season currently suspended because of the pandemic.

A number of footballers have tested positive for the virus in Italy, with Juventus defender Daniele Rugani the first player to contract it .

On-loan Wolves forward Patrick Cutrone also has the virus, with the 22-year-old joining Fiorentina team-mates German Pezzella, Dusan Vlahovic and the club’s physiotherapist Stefano Dainelli in contracting coronavirus.

Sampdoria have had six players test positive, with midfielders Fabio Depaoli, Morten Thorsby and Albin Ekdal, defender Omar Colley, attackers Antonino La Gumina and Manolo Gabbiadini catching the virus.

Currently, no other Juventus player has caught the virus but all 121 players and staff are in self-isolation, including Cristiano Ronaldo .

The Portuguese superstar is currently holed up in Madeira and released a statement on Friday, saying: “The world is going through a difficult time and demands the utmost care and attention from everyone.

“Today I am not speaking to you as a footballer, but as a son, as a father, as a human being aware of the latest events that are affecting the world.

“It is important that we follow the recommendations of the WHO (World Health Organization) and those of governments on how to manage this situation.

“Protecting human lives is above any other interest. I want to send all my support to all those who have lost a loved one.

“My solidarity for those who are fighting the virus, such as my partner Daniele Rugani, and all my support for the incredible work that medical professionals are doing by putting his life at risk to save those of others.”
