Captain Dave Edwards headed the winner as Shrewsbury beat Doncaster 1-0 to secure a first League One victory of 2020.
The former Wales international struck 14 minutes from time to settle the game in Shrewsbury’s favour.
Former Hibernian midfielder Josh Vela, making his Shrewsbury debut, fired a shot off target and then his corner posed problems for Doncaster before goalkeeper Seny Dieng claimed the ball on the line.
Ben Sheaf had Doncaster’s first chance but fired over and then on the stroke of half-time Jacob Ramsey drove a shot straight at Shrewsbury goalkeeper Max O’Leary.
Ben Whiteman’s curling effort was well saved by O’Leary early in the second half and then Ramsey cracked a shot from 20 yards against a post for the visitors.
Conor McAleny’s shot was well stopped by Dieng and Aaron Pierre’s volley was deflected wide as Shrewsbury pushed for a breakthrough.
The winner arrived in the 76th minute as Callum Lang’s cross from the right was headed home by midfielder Edwards.
Doncaster chased a late equaliser and O’Leary saved well with his legs to deny Cameron John.
