Ryan not laid Lowe by missed opportunity at Macc

Ryan Lowe insisted he was satisfied with a point from Plymouth’s 1-1 draw at Macclesfield despite missing out on a chance to hit top spot.

The Pilgrims snatched a draw six minutes from time through Antoni Sarcevic, who pounced to equalise after his penalty had been saved by Jonathan Mitchell.

And though his side still trail Swindon and Exeter in the Sky Bet League Two table, Lowe was happy to take what reward he could.

“I thought a point was fair, we definitely didn’t deserve to win it,” he said. “The quality wasn’t quite there tonight so it’s a good point. Teams are coming here now and coming up against a team that’s fighting for their lives, they’re galvanising each other and it’s great to see.

“Credit where credit’s due but we weren’t firing on all cylinders tonight. Macclesfield got blocks on the line, got bodies in the way and sometimes in this league that’s what happens. We had 70 per cent of the possession but didn’t do enough to win it.

“Macclesfield started the game brightly so they might be disappointed but we’re quite happy with a point.

“There was a lack of quality from us in certain areas but they worked their socks off, they’ve been magnificent in their work ethic.”

Denied a much-needed victory after Shilow Tracey had put them ahead during a first-half siege on the Plymouth goal, Macclesfield head coach Mark Kennedy also felt taking a point apiece was a fair outcome, given Plymouth’s second-half dominance.

And after running the title contenders so close he was also quick to heap praise on his side for their efforts.

“I thought the lads were outstanding in every respect,” he said. “We always talk about their attitude and their commitment, the strength of the squad, that’s never been in doubt since I’ve been here, and it stood out.

“I thought in the first half in particular they were outstanding against an outstanding side.

“We’re disappointed to draw because we all want to win games but you have to be rational and realistic in what you say – Plymouth had a huge amount of possession in the second half so they’ll walk away thinking they deserve something. The flip side is that I’ll look back at how many times we worked the keeper.

“When I first came here we were difficult to beat without really working the goalkeeper but in the last two games we’ve caused two excellent sides (Exeter and Plymouth) a lot of problems.

“I know we’ll always be hard to beat but we’re starting to work the opposition now, that’s the big plus for us.”
