John Yems impressed with Crawley’s character

Crawley head coach John Yems expressed his delight at the application shown by his players after they extended their unbeaten home run to seven games with a goalless draw against Carlisle.

The Reds have not lost in the league at the Broadfield Stadium since November 23 and the improvement under Yems has seen them lose only two of 15 matches since he took charge.

Yems was especially pleased at the way his team reacted to the 2-1 defeat at Crewe in midweek, saying: “We could have gone under but we didn’t.

“I’m wet, muddy and hungry but well pleased. It was a good game for the neutral.”

Crawley have only scored one goal in their last three games but Yems says he is not concerned.

He added: “The season is not over. The lads are creating chances and we feel we can win every time we step on the pitch.”

Reds keeper Glenn Morris made three superb second-half saves to keep his side on level terms.

Yems admitted: “It would be nice if we didn’t notice Glenn sometimes.”

Carlisle head coach Chris Beech described Morris’ save from Jon Mellish shortly after the break as “world class” and admitted to being “unsure” why his side did not win.

He said: “We had 24 shots and I’m unsure myself why we haven’t got the three points.

“We missed some gilt-edged chances in horrific conditions.”

Winger Nathan Thomas twice forced Morris to make crucial stops.

Beech added: “Nathan had a lot of the ball and had the full-back on toast, but we didn’t capitalise on the chances.

“Crawley have had a long unbeaten run at home, had scored eight goals in their previous three (home) games, but we didn’t get the drop of the ball.

“Their keeper should have got man of the match but in the last three games we’ve been excellent.”
