Things worsened as Matthijs de Ligt and new Chelsea signing Hakim Ziyech put the Dutch side 2-0 up in the second leg and three goals to the good overall.

But an inspired second-half performance by Brazilian Lucas Moura saw the tie turn on its head with a last-gasp winner in the 96th minute sending Spurs through to the final.

Alderweireld trailed behind Lucas as ecstatic Tottenham players celebrated at the Amsterdam Arena.

But the Belgian defender appears to have carried on the party to the next level.

Alderweireld, who already has a daughter, confirmed the news of his new child on Twitter, posting: "Jace Alderweireld. The best Valentine's Day gift we could ever wish for!

"Thank you to my beautiful wife Shani for being the strongest and most courageous woman.

"My heart is so full and I can't wait for the special memories the four of us will make together."

Similarly Mo Salah and Jordan Henderson's wives both gave birth nine months on from Liverpool's famous 4-0 Champions League victory over Barcelona at Anfield.

And Harry Maguire and his fiancee Fern Hawkins' celebrated the birth of baby daughter Lille exactly nine months after England beat Colombia on penalties at the World Cup.
