Paul Pogba has been backed to make a shock move to Manchester United's rivals.

Paul Pogba would get into both the Liverpool and Manchester City starting XIs and it may be best for the Frenchman to part ways with Manchester United this summer, says former England striker Darren Bent. Pogba continues to be linked with a move away from United after months of speculation over his future.

The midfielder has played just twice for United since last September due to an ongoing ankle injury.

Real Madrid and Juventus are two clubs who are interested in signing Pogba but Bent believes the list of potential suitors would be longer than that if he were available.

And he says he would not be surprised if the likes of Liverpool or City attempted to sign him.

“When someone like a Paul Pogba comes available on the market, and he’s only 26, there’s going to be so many takers,” Bent said on talkSPORT.

“It wouldn’t surprise me if teams like Manchester City come in for him, Liverpool I can see him getting in their team.

“If he’s on top, top form he can get in most teams in the world.

“Is it a headache that Manchester United are tired of hearing about? He’s been injured for the longest period of time, but yet we’re still talking about him.

“Because he’s not even on the pitch and we’re still talking about him, I wonder maybe if it is best if they part their ways.

“Then everyone can solely focus on Manchester United Football Club – rather than looking for a scapegoat, which is Paul Pogba, for everything that has gone wrong in recent years.”

Bent says Pogba does not help himself with his social media activity but also thinks the 26-year-old receives too much criticism, especially since he has been out injured.

The pundit continued: “At times you have to feel a bit sorry for him. He’s the scapegoat for absolutely everything [at Manchester United].

“Even when he’s not playing people blame him and they’re always talking about him.

“I don’t think sometimes the social media aspect helps him. When he says he’s ill and then he’s at his brother’s wedding dancing around – I think that rubs people up the wrong way.

“But when you talk about Manchester United selling him, I think there’s going to be a whole host of people lining up to get him. I think that is the difficulty for Manchester United.

“I know people are saying they’re going to have to take a loss on him, but I can see him going pretty much wherever he wants and that includes certain teams in the Premier League by the way.

“One thing you can’t question about Pogba, and I’ve heard people call him an average footballer and that is complete nonsense, he is a top footballer.

“When Ole Gunnar Solskjaer came in there was a run of 11 games which got Pogba in the PFA Team of the Year, because he was brilliant

“That’s probably his only consistent period in a Manchester United shirt. We saw then the levels he can go too.”
