Healey equaliser helps MK Dons make point at Shrewsbury

Rhys Healey struck a 77th-minute equaliser for MK Dons as they shared a 1-1 draw with Shrewsbury at Montgomery Waters Meadow.

Omar Beckles fired Shrewsbury in front just past the hour but Healey levelled for the visitors as the spoils were shared between two sides looking to escape from relegation trouble.

Shrewsbury threatened first when Daniel Udoh headed an early cross over before team-mate Conor McAleny twice forced saves from goalkeeper Lee Nicholls.

Alex Gilbey fired a shot into the side-netting for MK Dons and then drove wide after a strong run cutting in from the left.

The visitors were close to taking the lead on the stroke of half-time when Louis Thompson drilled a low shot against the far post after breaking into the penalty area.

However, it was Shrewsbury who drew first blood in the 62nd minute when Beckles hit a fine shot high into the net from the edge of the penalty area.

That was not enough to earn the points though, as Dons equalised 13 minutes from time when Healey sweeped in the rebound after Joe Murphy had initially saved well from Sam Nombe.

Udoh, Callum Lang and McAleny then went close for Shrewsbury before Healey struck the bar from long range and Nombe hit a post late on for the visitors as both teams chased victory.
