Russ Wilcox waiting on trio ahead of Scunthorpe’s clash with Cheltenham

Scunthorpe caretaker manager Russ Wilcox faces a number of injury concerns ahead of his side’s Sky Bet League Two clash with Cheltenham.

Defender Rory McArdle is to be assessed before the game after being sidelined since early January with a hamstring injury and illness, while midfielder Yann Songo’o could come into contention after making a comeback from a knee injury in the Under-23s on Monday.

Fellow midfielder Jordan Hallam is also on the brink of a return from a hamstring problem, but Wilcox still has four players unavailable.

Jordan Clarke (calf) is expected to miss most of the rest of the season while Kgosi Ntlhe (Achilles tendinitis) is not due back until mid-March. Junior Brown (medial ligament) faces at least another week out and Regan Slater (ankle) remains sidelined.

An illness bug forced Cheltenham boss Michael Duff to give his squad Monday off.

Tahvon Campbell, who missed last week’s 2-1 home victory over Morecambe because of it, has fully recovered, alongside fellow striker Luke Varney, who was forced off after 66 minutes of that game.

Midfielder Chris Clements, who also sat out the clash with the Shrimps, remains doubtful for the trip to Glanford Park as he is “still carrying a little bit”, according to Duff.

Duff’s only injury concern is Conor Thomas who picked up a rib injury against Morecambe that resulted in the midfielder being replaced after 51 minutes.
