Liverpool-linked Timo Werner coy on RB Leipzig future

Leipzig standout

Timo Werner is having a sensational 2019/20 campaign with RB Leipzig.

The German has always been fairly impressive for Leipzig since joining them from Stuttgart in 2016.

Last campaign saw the pacey attacker net 16 and assist nine in 30 Bundesliga outings, which is an excellent return.

But this season, Werner looks to have stepped up a gear and despite it only being early February, the 23-year-old has already found the back of the net on 20 occasions in the league this season.

Only Bayern Munich's Robert Lewandowski has been more prolific in front of goal in the Bundesliga so far this campaign.

Werner coy on future

Rather unsurprisingly, given his superb form of late, the RB Leipzig hitman looks to be attracting the attention of some top clubs.

One of the clubs to be linked with a move for Werner recently was Premier League powerhouse, Liverpool.

The German international, of course, didn't move in the winter window but he has since spoken about his future and potential transfer interest

Werner acknowledged that his good form will attract interest.

But when speaking about his future, the Leipzig forward remained rather coy, stating he isn't thinking about it now and can contemplate it later:

"When you score 20 goals as a 23-year-old in a season then, of course, there is interest. That's clear.

"But, right now, I am not thinking about what happens in the future.

"We are going into many important games. That's what I want to focus on now. I can still contemplate my future later." As quoted by ESPN.

This may give the Liverpool faithful some hope of securing a deal for Werner in the summer as whilst he didn't directly say he would leave Leipzig in the next window, he also didn't rule out an exit, something the German could have easily done by stating he is committed to the club.

Werner is naturally a centre-forward but can also play out on the left, which would be useful for Liverpool as it would mean Werner could provide cover for both Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.
