MANCHESTER UNITED are already plotting to join Chelsea in the summer transfer tug-of-war for Jadon Sancho.

The England forward, 19, has been a long-time target of United, but it was Chelsea who registered interest in the winter window.

As revealed by SunSport, the Blues decided to cool their interest till the start of next season - but will now be joined by the Red Devils.

According to the Evening Standard, United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is targeting a right-sided winger, striker and creative midfielder to play in the No10 role.

And Sancho is claimed to be their priority signing to play out on the right, while his England team-mate, Leicester’s James Maddison, is the playmaker they will pursue.

After selling Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez to Inter Milan this summer, Solskjaer paid the price for not replacing the duo as an injury to Marcus Rashford and inconsistency of Anthony Martial left United scrambling for a forward.

Despite interest for Edison Cavani, Josh King and Danny Ings, ex-Watford striker Odion Ighalo was signed on loan from Chinese side Shanghai Shenhua.

Solskjaer has already confirmed Sanchez will return from Milan next season in a bid to rejuvenate his Old Trafford career and "prove everybody wrong".

But it is understood another proven scorer is still a priority for United in the summer sales.

Old Trafford chiefs finally signed Bruno Fernandes from Sporting Lisbon following an exhausted transfer saga.

And after the two late signings last month, United want to get their business done early in the summer, with marquee signings targeted.

Solskjaer said: “It won’t be six or seven coming in definitely.

“It will be a similar window. But here we go again, January is not even done, but we are talking about the summer window. Hopefully we can do our business early on.

“There were different reasons for that (late business last summer) and I don’t have to go into all those reasons.

“I don’t think everyone has a right to know what is going on behind the scenes and why we do things at times because there might be different stuff going on.

“I am happy and I am confident that this group will keep on improving and that we will work to improve and we are a group going together.”
