Lee Hodson leaves Gillingham for St Mirren loan deal

Gillingham full-back Lee Hodson has joined Scottish Premiership side St Mirren on loan until the end of the season.

The former Rangers defender has made just 12 appearances for the League One side since joining the Gills from the Ibrox outfit last summer.

It will be the 28-year-old’s second spell with the Buddies after spending last season there on loan from Rangers.

The Northern Irishman has previously played for Watford, Brentford, MK Dons and Kilmarnock.

Gills manager Steve Evans said: “Lee is a top-class lad and a very good player.

“However Barry Fuller has been very good and we have several players who can play in that position if needed.

“In fairness Lee wants to play football and I presented him with three SPL options and two in League One and, out of those, he has chosen St Mirren, an excellent club.

“He did very well there previously so we all wish him success.”

The Gills have also confirmed that 19-year-old striker Roman Campbell has left the club after his contract was terminated by mutual consent.

The Academy graduate has taken up an offer from non-League Sittingbourne, where he had a loan spell earlier this season.

Meanwhile, Celtic have rejected an approach from Gillingham for 16-year-old midfielder Karamoko Dembele.

Hoops manager Neil Lennon said: “They made an enquiry about it and it was turned down. I think this is the best place for him.

“We know of his capabilities, we know of his talent. We are very excited about him but he is just going to turn 17 soon.

“We have to protect him and we have a duty of care with him in terms of his development but we want it here.”
