But there could be a stumbling block before the deal is done - the winger's £600,000-a-week wage at the Bernabeu.

The Welshman is still on the fringes of Zinedine Zidane's first team in Spain, featuring in just 12 LaLiga games this season.

He has also been plagued with injuries that have undoubtedly affected his stint in Spain, while the fans have never quite taken to him.

In the summer, the 30-year-old was close to completing a sensational move to CHINA - but the plug was pulled by the Real Madrid board.

Boss Zidane was reportedly not happy with this decision, and it led to rumours of his own exit for a second time from Los Blancos.

BALE TO JOIN BERGWIJN?

Now MailOnline is reporting that Spurs and Real Madrid "will enter talks" but that any move is dependent on Bale "agreeing to a massive pay cut".

If Madrid can shift Bale off the wage bill, they could accept a low fee for a player who cost them £85million when he joined from Spurs in the summer of 2013.

That will be music to the ears of Spurs supremo Daniel Levy, famous for driving a hard bargain.

His current contract runs until the summer of 2022.

If Spurs land Bale it will be the SECOND winger they sign this month.

The Londoners completed a a £27million move for Steven Bergwijn on a five-year contract on Wednesday.

It was also  revealed the club spent an entire year scouting his performances at PSV Eindhoven.

The player will wear the No23, left vacant by Christian Eriksen's move to Inter Milan, and could make his debut against Man City on Sunday.

Bergwijn was accompanied by his parents, younger brother and his agents as he completed personal terms and met the gaffer.
