Manchester United are set to welcome Alexis Sanchez back to the club for a second crack at life at Old Trafford under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Manchester United are expecting Alexis Sanchez to return to the club next summer from his loan at Inter Milan to prove everybody wrong. That’s the verdict of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who has handed the Chilean a lifeline at the club in bizarre circumstances.

Sanchez looked as if he’d played his final game for the club, but now it appears he will be a part of the team’s plans for next season.

That comes as a huge surprise given that United tried their best to offload him last summer, to get him off the books.

They were even prepared to pay a large proportion of his wages for his time at the San Siro, which has struggled to get off the ground due to injury.

Now Solskjaer has confirmed that reports stating Sanchez will get another chance at the club are indeed correct.

“We’ve got players here that we’re working hard to get back as well and if there is something out there then the club is pursuing that and it’s difficult,” he said ahead of the Carabao Cup semi-final second-leg with Manchester City.

“I can’t remember how many good ones we’ve brought in and good deals in January.

“Henrik was good, Nemanja and Patrice, I’m talking about it’s hard, very hard, the clubs don’t wanna lose their best players.

“Alexis will come back in the summer and will prove us all wrong.”

The player is not said to be keen on the idea of returning to the club however.

Inter Milan do not have an option to buy on their loan deal, which will expire at the end of the season.

United do not have an option to recall the 31-year-old from his time in Italy before the end of the season.

His United contract is worth £500,000-a-week and is not due to expire until 2022.

Sanchez has managed just one goal in six appearances this season but is hoping to help contribute to a successful title challenge in the second half of the campaign.

Meanwhile, United are still locked in talks over Bruno Fernandes, with Sporting not willing to reduce their asking price.

It remains unlikely that the two clubs will reach an agreement before the deadline unless United increase their offer.
