Robins: Conditions contributed to poor game

Coventry boss Mark Robins acknowledged the awful conditions at Fleetwood ‘killed’ their game which ended goalless.
Neither side could find a breakthrough amid the swirling wind at Highbury.
The promotion-chasing Sky Blues extended their unbeaten league run to six games, with the Robins seemingly content to have secured a share of the spoils on a dreadful night.
Robins said: “That was a really poor game. Everyone could see the conditions here killed it.
“It was a game of poor quality pretty much all night and again that was purely down to the conditions.
“Everyone on our bench had icicles on their noses and on their chins, it was that cold and windy.
“On nights like this you have to feel sorry for the fans.
“That was the case here. It’s been a long day, and a long week, but they gave us terrific support once again.
“I felt a bit aggrieved that we didn’t get a penalty late in the game.
“I thought it was a disgrace not to give that one, but again after a game like that and conditions like that, I’ll take a point all day long.
“Neither side deserved to win in my opinion, so we’ll take that point and move on to the weekend game now.”
Chances were always scarce in blustery conditions, with Town’s Ched Evans seeing a shot blocked after the hosts pounced on Jordan Shipley’s error.
Shipley almost atoned when his 30-yard drive was well saved by Alex Cairns.
Evans then missed the best chance of the first period when he headed straight at keeper Marko Marosi.
City midfielder Liam Walsh saw a powerful strike saved by Cairns early in the second period, before Town replied with Paddy Madden blazing over.
Coventry sub Max Biamou went close from 20 yards late on.
Fleetwood boss Joey Barton clearly felt his side ought to have taken maximum points as their search for a first home win since November goes on.
He said: “I’m pleased, chiefly because it’s back-to-back clean sheets for us now.
“We’ve spoken in the past about at least giving ourselves a platform. The back four, and goalkeeper Alex Cairns, were brilliant again.
“We limited Coventry to minimal opportunities and they’re a good side, make no bones about it.
“Mark has got Coventry really well organised and they’re on a good run.
“It was a dangerous game for us because of Coventry’s quality, but on the sheer weight of chances I think we’ve had the better of it.
“We created the better chances and on another day we score a couple of them and it turns into an easy Tuesday night for us.
“I’m disappointed overall, We should have beaten Coventry and we should have beaten them down there earlier in the season.”
