Barcelona make Arsenal’s Aubameyang no.1 January target – Telegraph

As per a report from Matt Law of the Telegraph, Arsenal are expecting an approach from Spanish giants Barcelona for star hitman Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Barca faltering

The Blaugrana visited Valencia on Saturday night, for their latest La Liga outing.

The matchup came as Barca's 3rd under the guidance of Quique Setien, after the Spanish tactician replaced Ernesto Valverde on the Camp Nou bench two weeks ago.

The Catalan giants' first two fixtures with Setien at the helm had not exactly proven inspiring, as Barcelona struggled to consecutive 1-goal victories over Granada and minnows Ibiza.

And to say that things did not exactly improve much at the Mestalla would be putting it lightly.

A lifeless performance on the part of the Blaugrana eventually saw hosts Valencia emerge with a deserved 2-0 win, courtesy of a pair of strikes from Maxi Gomez.

Auba targeted

Reports stemming from Spain over the last 24 hours, though, have assured that the board at the Camp Nou are ready to lend a helping hand to the club’s under-fire new boss, in the form of reinforcements to Quique Setien's squad.

The reliable Cat Radio have definitively claimed that Barcelona will make a major signing this week.

The arrival is widely expected to be a centre-forward, with the La Liga champions lacking in options up top on the back of Luis Suarez's long-term injury.

Cat Radio add, however, that it will not be either Inter Milan's Lautaro Martinez or Rodrigo of Valencia:

And this would certainly appear to fall in line with the latest speculation stemming from England today.

As per the aforementioned report from Matt Law of the Telegraph, Barca have in fact identified another hitman as their first-choice January target.

The player in question? Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Law claims that the Blaugrana are set to make an inquiry imminently, with Arsenal braced for the approach.

Those in charge at the Camp Nou are said to be hopeful that the emergence of Gabriel Martinelli could see the Gunners agree to part ways with their star man, for the right price.

If this does not prove the case, though, Law, contradicting Cat Radio's report, claims that Barca will turn their 'full attentions' to Rodrigo.
