Oldham and Carlisle share the spoils at Boundary Park

Jonny Smith’s deflected strike earned Oldham a point in an entertaining 1-1 draw with Carlisle.
The on-loan Bristol City winger scored for the seventh time this season with a left-footed drive in the 42nd minute that hit a defender on the way to wrong-footing goalkeeper Adam Collin.
The hosts had enjoyed the better of the opening half at Boundary Park before falling behind after 25 minutes.
A corner kick was only half-cleared and after Nathan Thomas found space on the right, his lofted cross was headed in by centre-back Byron Webster at the near post.
Carlisle poured forward after half-time and Oldham goalkeeper Zeus De la Paz had to throw himself to his left to keep out Hallam Hope’s 25-yard shot.
Thomas forced another stop, this time from the legs of De la Paz, while just after the hour the goalkeeper blocked an effort from Stefan Scougall before Harry McKirdy couldn’t keep his header from the rebound down.
Oldham responded well again and substitute Zak Dearnley almost grabbed a late winner when poking wide from Mohamed Sylla’s low cross.
