Yeovil overcame the early sending off of Chris Dagnall to maintain their promotion push with a 2-0 win at Torquay, who also ended the game with 10 men.
The Glovers headed to Plainmoor trailing National League leaders Barrow by only a point.
However, their bid to keep pace with the Bluebirds appeared to receive a blow when Dagnall kicked out at home goalkeeper Lucas Covolan in the 12th minute to earn a red card.
But Yeovil responded by taking the lead four minutes later, when Courtney Duffus fired home after getting on the end of a Charlie Lee pass.
Torquay were themselves reduced to 10 men in the 79th minute, with Jean-Yves Koue Niate shown a second yellow card, before Rhys Murphy doubled the advantage in stoppage time.
Darren Sarll’s men remain a point off the top after Barrow also picked up three points at AFC Fylde on New Year’s Day.
