Ahkeem Rose effort guides Grimsby to win over Salford

Grimsby began life under Ian Holloway with a late 1-0 Sky Bet League Two victory against Salford.
Jamaican striker Ahkeem Rose came off the bench to settle the game with a close-range finish – in front of the watching former QPR and Blackpool manager.
Holloway will officially take over at Blundell Park on Thursday morning.
Genuine opportunities were few and far between during the first half – with Adam Rooney dragging wide before seeing a free header well saved by James McKeown.
At the other end, midfielder Jake Hessenthaler struck a venomous drive over the crossbar, following muted claims for a Grimsby penalty as Liam Hogan tussled with Jordan Cook.
Upon the restart, Charles Vernam cut inside on two occasions and fired goalwards.
The in-form Brandon Asante-Thomas was proving to be a handful for Salford, meanwhile, and it took a superb block from Harry Davis to prevent him from opening the scoring.
Asante-Thomas was promptly denied by James McKeown, but it was Rose who produced the match-winning moment for Grimsby.
