Matt Godden’s hat-trick helps Coventry ease past League One leaders Wycombe

A superb Matt Godden hat-trick consigned Wycombe to a third successive defeat as Coventry thrashed the League One leaders 4-1 at Adams Park.
Godden’s treble and a wonderful strike from Sam McCallum were just reward for a brilliant showing from a Coventry outfit which remains firmly in the mix for automatic promotion.
McCallum had Mark Robins’ side in front after just three minutes, curling in a glorious effort with his right foot after cutting in from the left.
Wycombe’s equaliser 10 minutes later was their solitary bright moment as Adebayo Akinfenwa rolled the ball in past Marko Marosi after latching on to Sido Jombati’s flick on.
The Wycombe full-back turned villain just a minute later when he upended McCallum as he was through on goal, with referee Kevin Johnson awarding a penalty which Godden put away.
Godden then rounded Wycombe goalkeeper Ryan Allsop and tapped home for Coventry’s third at the end of a slick passing move.
He lashed home his third just after the half-time interval when Jordan Shipley’s sublime pass put Godden through to cap off a fine performance.
