Jack Roles struck the winner as Cambridge returned to winning ways with a 1-0 success against struggling Morecambe.
The home side threatened early on as Marc Richards teed up Roles, whose low shot was pushed wide by Mark Halstead.
Cambridge continued to push and Richards beat Halstead at the end of a flowing move but was denied by George Tanner on the line.
Five minutes before half-time, Kevin Ellison went close for the visitors but blazed over from Carlos Mendes Gomes’ pullback from the byline.
After Halstead saved a Richards header, Roles got the decisive goal in the 57th minute when he fired in from the right edge of the penalty box with an effort which took a deflection and into the net.
Morecambe thought they had equalised three minutes later when Alex Kenyon’s shot was defected in by Ellison, only for the veteran’s effort to be ruled out for offside.
The U’s almost sealed their win with 13 minutes remaining, only for Steven Old to clear Richards’ header off the line.
