Moore delighted with Doncaster’s performances against Peterborough this season

Darren Moore admitted a second dominant win for his Doncaster side against high-flying Peterborough was a “real feather in the cap” after a 3-0 victory at the Weston Homes Stadium.

Former Posh player Kieran Sadlier scored in either half before captain Ben Whiteman curled in a late third for Rovers, which ended a run of six matches without a win.

Sadlier has now scored in his last three matches against Peterborough, including the 2-0 win in the reverse fixture.

Doncaster boss Moore said: “We’ve spoken to Sads about letting his shots go because he shoots strong off both his left foot and right foot. And he got his just rewards today.

“I’m really pleased to get the three points. We know what an excellent team Peterborough are and that they carry a wonderful goal threat.

“They’re managed by Darren Ferguson who is a good manager. They’re a strong team, so to put in a performance like this is really rewarding.

“We’ve been working the last couple days and tactically we were right and the players had to do their jobs. And the players did their jobs.

“The second goal took it away from them. They had to come at us and we got the third goal.

“We’ve now played them twice this season and scored five and conceded none which is a real feather in the cap.

“I’m delighted, but I won’t get too high.”

Sadlier struck with a superb 30-yard effort low into the bottom right corner after 18 minutes.

Posh, who started the day in second place, nearly equalised in the second half when Ivan Toney’s looping header from a Marcus Maddison corner was headed off the line by Tom Anderson.

But Sadlier flicked in a Jon Taylor corner after 61 minutes before Whiteman found the corner from 20 yards on the break in the 82nd minute.

Peterborough manager Darren Ferguson said: “There wasn’t three goals in the game but it’s all about the scoreline. Goals change games and the second one is a big goal. Unfortunately it was for them.

“It was a really poor goal to concede. We’ll take it on the chin and we’re fortunate the games are coming thick and fast.

“I thought we started the game really well and were on the front foot. Sadlier just seems to be always scoring against us.

“His goal gave them a lift. In the first half, we did not create many chances but in the second half we were really on top. Sometimes you get this in football and 3-0 flattered them, but they were very clinical.

“We had 18 attempts on goal and you expect to score at least one. The most important thing is we continue to create chances and keep clean sheets. And hopefully we get some bodies back.”
