A six-goal Boxing Day thriller at the Pirelli Stadium saw Liam Boyce’s brace help Burton beat Tranmere 4-2 and record their first back-to-back Sky Bet League One victories of the campaign.
Albion deservedly went in front in the 12th minute. Scott Fraser won possession from Kieron Morris and was there at the finish to round off a flowing move that allowed Lucas Akins to set him up from six yards out.
Rovers battled their way back into it and were level in the 26th minute, Morgan Ferrier gratefully firing home the rebound after Neil Danns’ header had struck a post.
Akins struck against his former side in the 50th minute after working his way into the box before firing low through a crowded six-yard box to find the bottom corner.
On the hour mark Burton had daylight when Boyce volleyed home his first of the afternoon from beyond the far post after excellent work from Akins and Fraser.
Morris took just four minutes to reduce the deficit driving low inside the near post to set up a nervy finish, but Boyce’s near-post finish four minutes from time clinched the points.
