Man United boss Solskjaer confirms Paul Pogba setback

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this afternoon revealed that Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has suffered another setback in his efforts to return to the pitch.

Man United vs Colchester

The Red Devils are set to get their League Cup campaign back underway tomorrow evening.

United will welcome League Two outfit Colchester United to Old Trafford, for a quarter-final clash.

The hosts earned their spot in the competition's final-8 courtesy of an impressive 2-1 win at Chelsea back in October, and will understandably enter proceedings in a little over 24 hours' time as heavy favourites to advance.

Colchester, though, already have an impressive Premier League scalp to their name in this season's League Cup.

A 3rd-round meeting with Tottenham saw the minnows put their illustrious opponents to the sword following a penalty shootout.

Pogba blow

As such, speaking in his pre-Colchester press conference earlier today, Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was asked for a fitness update on his squad.

And, in a blow for the Red Devils, the Norwegian went on to confirm that Paul Pogba has suffered yet another setback in his attempts to regain full fitness.

World Cup winner Pogba hasn't featured for Manchester United since a 1-1 draw with Arsenal late in September.

The midfielder is sidelined with a long-standing ankle problem, but had been expected to return imminently.

Based on the latest comments of his manager, though, there is still no definitive date set for Pogba's return.

This comes with the Frenchman having now been struck down by a bout of illness:

Of all things he's now struck down with illness and he's been off for two or three days. That's not beneficial and that's probably set him back quite a bit.

As I've said so many times, Paul is a top player that we want to see playing his best football at Man United.

We just need to get him match fit. He might be half an hour, 45, 60, 90 minutes – who knows – in the first game. We're working hard to get him back, but now he's ill.
