Anthony Limbrick takes positives despite Grimsby’s winless run going on

Grimsby’s interim manager Anthony Limbrick is still waiting for his first win in charge after his side missed a series of chances during a goalless draw against Carlisle.

Both sides hit the crossbar as the League Two strugglers each earned a point, which moved them six points clear of the relegation zone.

But despite seeing his side fail to win again in his fifth game at the helm, Limbrick felt there was a lot to feel positive about after a game that was not helped by a blustery wind.

Limbrick said: “In the first half we hit the crossbar and had one disallowed for offside. No-one could have argued if we had been in the lead.

“We created a couple more chances in the second half and did not take them which is the frustrating bit.

“It’s a tough away trip but when you create that much you expect to score. It’s not falling for us at the moment.

“We felt it was a much-improved performance and we fought and scrapped well and did all the ugly things, but that was where we need to be scoring.”

Limbrick praised his defenders for their clean sheet.

“Away from home you will always get periods of pressure but we defended well and blocked things in the box,” he added.

“We want to play on the front foot and when the team produces it you can’t ask for much more. We did well to keep a clean sheet and we made positive runs and wanted to go for the win.”

Limbrick will wait to find out whether he is going to be handed an extended period in the hot seat.

He said: “I have enjoyed doing the job and the players have responded, although some wins would help the position. It’s frustrating in the position we are in but we will just have to go again next week.”

Carlisle head coach Chris Beech admitted his side came up short in the final third.

“We tried hard to get a goal but it didn’t come today,” he said.

“I wanted to put the opposition under severe pressure from the start, but we didn’t do it. The game changed and we applied pressure, but we need a better end product.”

The draw did at least maintain Beech’s unbeaten record int he four games since he took over at Brunton Park.

He added: “I am pleased so far with our progress but we need to step on and continue to battle and show a bit of quality to turn things into three points. I am trying to achieve high standards and the players are applying themselves, but you can’t get there with a click of your fingers,” he said.
