Docherty early double sinks Alloa

Ross Docherty’s early brace helped Ayr beat Alloa 2-1 at Somerset Park to sit third in the Ladbrokes Championship.

Midfielder Docherty gave the hosts an early lead when he headed in following corner after six minutes.

Docherty added a second for the Honest Men after 12 minutes, this time nodding in from Stephen Kelly’s pass.

Alloa forward Kevin O’Hara gave the visitors hope when he pulled a goal back with a fine strike in the 67th minute.

Ayr, though, saw through the closing stages as goalkeeper Ross Doohan made a smart late save from Wasps substitute Liam Buchanan to move a point behind Inverness, who went down 3-1 at struggling Partick Thistle.
