Hoskins gets only goal as Northampton defeat Forest Green

Northampton recorded their sixth straight home victory with a 1-0 win over Forest Green.
The visitors struck the woodwork a total of three times across the 90 minutes but Sam Hoskins’ first-half goal ultimately earned the Cobblers all three points to move them within a point of third place in Sky Bet League Two.
A lively start at Sixfields saw Adam Smith react smartly to tip over Michael Harriman’s header after three minutes and then Liam Shephard hit the base of the post for Rovers just moments later.
Smith also saved with his legs from Paul Anderson later in the half but the Cobblers were not to be denied a half-time lead after Hoskins was on hand to turn home Nicky Adams’ corner with 45 minutes gone.
Jack Aitchison cracked the crossbar after the break and the woodwork was shaking for a second time on the hour when Ebou Adams could not convert from just a few yards out.
David Cornell thwarted Aitchison late on and despite piling on the pressure, Rovers were unable to find a leveller.
