Manchester United have been urged to sign Raul Jimenez from Wolves to fix their problems at centre forward.

Manchester United have been told by pundit Danny Murphy that Raul Jimenez could be the answer to their problems in attack. The Wolves hitman has made a real impression in the Black Country since arriving on English soil and is adored at Molineux for his work ethic and goalscoring prowess.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking to sign a striker in the January transfer window to boost their hopes of a top four finish, something he failed to do last summer.

It’s a decision that he has discreetly lived to regret, particularly after allowing Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez to join Inter Milan.

Murphy’s recommendation was in response to Matthew Upson, who claimed Manchester United need a different kind of forward, somebody who can link up their current attacking trio of Marcus Rashford, Daniel James and Anthony Martial.

Upson said on The Debate: “You almost need that player sometimes that will just link it up with their back to goal.

"A bit more of an aerial and physical presence would really help them in the Premier League.

"I just think that there is matches like Sheffield United, those type of games, they’d really benefit from that type of presence on the pitch.”

And former Liverpool and Tottenham midfielder Murphy is certain the Mexican matches the criteria United are looking for.

"It’s finding though isn’t it,” he said.

"You mentioned Jimenez at Wolves. Wolves fans won’t like it but he’s a quality player.

"He’s that type you’re talking about.

"I agree, centre-forward is very important and if Rashford was injured or James was injured, Martial can play wide if they had another striker.

"There’s going to be a lot of games. This notion where ‘how can you split that front three up?’

"They’re not going to be fit every week, so maybe there is a loan market, where you can then wait until the summer to get the target you want.”

The 28-year-old initially joined Wolves on loan last season and fired 13 Premier League goals as the top-flight newcomers secured Europa League football with a seventh-placed finish.

It was enough to convince Nuno Espirito Santo to make the deal permanent for a club record fee of £30million.

Jimenez hinted earlier this week in an interview with Marca, that his long-term future maybe away from Wolves.

"The most important thing for me is to keep moving forward,” he said.

"I am happy with Wolves, but I always have to seek something more and keep fighting.

"This has been the best year of my career – but I want more. I’d have to look at the conditions (of a possible move), if they suited myself, Wolves and the other club.”
