Tranmere and Accrington share spoils

Tranmere came from behind to earn a 1-1 draw against Accrington at Prenton Park – a result that leaves both clubs hovering perilously above the League One relegation zone.

Captain Sean McConville opened the scoring for the visitors but Kieron Morris drew Rovers level before the end of an entertaining first half.

Playing on the front foot from the off, the visitors took the lead early on when Tranmere failed to deal with a corner, allowing McConville to sidefoot home from close range.

Things got worse for the hosts just past the half-hour mark when goalkeeper Scott Davies hobbled off, forcing 22-year-old Luke Pilling to make his first league appearance of the season.

Stanley continued to force the issue but they were pegged back eight minutes before the break, when Corey Blackett-Taylor burst down the left and crossed for Morris to volley home the equaliser.

The second half could not live up to the first but Jordan Clark came close for Stanley, hitting the bar with a deft chip. Eventually both sides had to settle for a point each.
