Man United 'believe they are leading' Jadon Sancho race/Latest on Liverpool interest – Telegraph

As per a report from James Ducker of the Telegraph, Manchester United feel as though they are at the front of the queue in the race for the signature of Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho.

Sancho's meteoric rise

19-year-old winger Sancho proved one of the talking points of European football last season.

The English youngster, who made the move to Borussia Dortmund from Man City in the summer of 2017 for £8 million, built on the potential that he showcased at the Westfalenstadion in 2017/18 with a string of sensational displays over the course of the campaign.

The pace, trickery, eye for goal and creative flair possessed by Sancho have seen him rise from exciting but raw prospect to one of world football's most highly-regarded starlets.

In total, last season, the blistering wide-man racked up 13 goals and 15 assists across all competitions.

In addition, he has previously been named the Bundesliga Player of the Month, and has already been handed 11 senior caps by England, despite having only turned 19 in March.

All told, across 72 appearances in Dortmund's colours, Sancho has notched 19 goals and 32 assists.

Man United the frontrunners?

As such, Sancho's stellar form in Germany has inevitably seen the teen linked with a potential return to the Premier League.

The likes of Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool have all been named as expressing an interest in the Dortmund starlet, with suggestions having also circulated that Sancho could make a surprise return to the Etihad with Man City.

It is United, though, who have been most persistently-linked.

And, as per the aforementioned report from the reliable James Ducker of the Telegraph, the Red Devils believe that, as things stand, they lead the race to secure Sancho's signature.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is said to have targeted the Dortmund star last summer, but United saw their advances firmly rebuffed.

Amid a testing period for Sancho in Germany, though, claims have begun to mount that the English international is keen to seek out a new challenge next summer.

And, despite Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid also sniffing around his signature, those in charge at Old Trafford are of the opinion that they are best placed to lure Sancho to the club.

Liverpool, meanwhile, though interested, are said to be reluctant to enter into a bidding war for the teenage wide-man.

In addition, the Premier League table-toppers' 'ultimate ambition' would be to sign Kylian Mbappe from PSG.
