Oxford boss Karl Robinson delighted to extend unbeaten run to 15 matches

Oxford boss Karl Robinson was pleased to make it 15 games unbeaten in all competitions following his side’s convincing 4-0 Sky Bet League One win at Southend.
The victory saw the U’s move into the play-off places and Robinson was delighted to keep the impressive run of results going.
“The record carries on, we got four goals on the goal difference and we look forward to the next game now,” said Robinson.
“It’s important to tick this off because we haven’t had a League game for a while and we don’t have one for a while now as well so it’s a very important three points for us.”
The U’s took just 52 seconds to open the scoring as Shrimpers defender Richard Taylor played a woeful pass straight into the path of Matt Taylor who fired home from eight yards.
The U’s remained on top with Southend goalkeeper Nathan Bishop doing well to deny James Henry twice in quick succession.
But Henry continued to threaten and put Oxford 2-0 in front in the 33rd minute as he sent a low 25-yard shot into the bottom left-hand corner of the net.
After the break, Tariqe Fosu fired against the foot of the left post before Oxford scored twice late on.
Taylor bagged his second goal of the game with another fine finish in the 84th minute before substitute Dan Agyei completed the scoring just moments after coming on as he charged down the left-hand side before firing home.
Robinson added: “We worked on things all week and got the rewards.
“When you’re on a run like this it’s a great place to be but we can concentrate on other things for a little bit now before coming back to the League.
“We’re in a good place but we have to keep this going.”
As a result, Sol Campbell’s second-bottom side now sit 11 points from safety.
And Campbell – who has lost his first four League games in charge – knows Southend are facing a huge fight to stay up.
“It’s going to be bloody hard to stay up but mathematically we’re still there – but performance-wise we aren’t,” said Campbell.
“There’s a mountain to climb but I’m willing to climb it and hopefully the players are around me too.
“We’re obviously disappointed but I’m more disappointed we’ve given it away when we’re not under pressure.
“We’ve got to start cutting the mistakes out, we have to look at ourselves and eradicate this because we’ve given them two or three goals today.
“I’ve got to turn it around not just football-wise but in other areas too.
“I have to make these guys believe they can win games and we have to keep on playing and go for it.”
