John McGreal disappointed by Cheltenham penalty award

Colchester boss John McGreal was disappointed to see his side pegged back by a “dodgy” penalty as they returned home from Cheltenham with a 1-1 draw.
Conor Thomas converted from the spot 20 minutes from the end after Luke Norris had given the U’s a first-half lead.
The penalty was awarded for a foul by goalkeeper Dean Gerken on Reuben Reid, who was making his first League Two appearance for Cheltenham.
“The penalty was dodgy to say the least,” McGreal said.
“He (Reid) saw he wasn’t going to reach the ball and went down.”
Despite the frustration, McGreal was pleased with the point as they were forced to withstand heavy pressure in the second half.
“We’ve had two weeks without a league game and you could tell we weren’t at full tilt,” he said.
“It was a tough game, but one we needed and away from home it’s a great point.
“The crowd are really on top of you here and credit to Cheltenham the way they came out in the second half, but I can’t fault the boys at all. I was really pleased with the first-half performance.
“Our young boys are still learning new ways of winning football games.”
Robins boss Michael Duff felt his side were unfortunate not to find a winner as they applied all of the pressure after half-time.
“We could have won it and once they got the early goal they just sat in and made it hard to try and play through,” he said.
“I don’t think we missed a load of chances, but the ball didn’t quite fall for us today and we played some really good football.
“They are a good team, make no mistake. It’s slightly frustrating because when we did get the goal there was a lot of time left and we thought we could go on and win it.
“Overall, you take the performance all the time and you don’t always get the result you deserve.”
