Manchester United are prepared to back Ole Gunnar Solskjaer by swooping for Erling Haaland.

The 19-year-old goal machine is wanted by all the big clubs after netting 26 times in 18 appearances in all competitions this season, including seven in four Champions League games.

A new striker is on the agenda at Old Trafford amid concerns over Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial’s scoring record.

Red Bull Salzburg are, understandably, reluctant to lose Haaland and have slapped a £75m asking price on his head in an attempt to scare off his suitors.

Despite the price tag, Solskjaer is hell bent on securing Haaland’s signature.

And the Daily Mail claim Ed Woodward is prepared to back the manager despite the prospect of forking out a huge fee.

A January transfer could prove tricky for the Red Devils to pull off, however, but want a deal by next summer at the latest.

Old Trafford bigwigs have reportedly discussed short-term alternatives such as Edin Dzeko and Mario Mandzukic to target in the mid-season sales but they are not prepared to pay over the odds.

Haaland is the son of former Manchester City and Leeds midfielder Alf-Inge.

Reports in Germany suggest he has advised Erling against a move to the Premier League but that has not deterred United.

Haaland’s string of goals has included five hat-tricks.

The Norwegian wonderkid has admitted that he sleeps with the match balls.

"I sleep with the five balls that I have for each hat-trick I scored," he said. "I lie in bed and I feel good with them," Haaland told Dagbladet.

"I look at them every day. They are my girlfriends."
