Nemanja Matic has not featured for Manchester United often this season and has enjoyed working with Jose Mourinho in the past.

Manchester United outcast Nemanja Matic could leave the club in January and has hinted at a possible reunion with Jose Mourinho at Tottenham.

The Serbian has worked with the Special One at both Chelsea and Manchester United which has led to some suggesting they could link up once again.

Matic has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford with the likes of Fred and Scott McTominay preferred by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

And now the 31-year-old has replied to a post by BenchWarmers on Instagram.

They had posted a picture of Matic and Mourinho with the caption: “#Matic waiting for #January so Jose #Mourinho can sign him.”

Matic replied with the clapping and laughing emoji hinting he would be happy if the former United and Chelsea manager made a move for him.

The midfielder has just six months left on his contract and is expected to leave Old Trafford in the summer if he doesn’t before in January.

Matic has made just five appearances in all competitions for United this season.

Mourinho will no doubt look to strengthen his Tottenham side in the January window after succeeding Pochettino.

And the Special One is ready to take on the challenge of rebuilding Spurs.

“I couldn't be happier and look forward to the challenge,” he said.

He added: “What can I promise? Passion, real passion.

“Passion for my job, but also passion for my club, that's the way I have been all my career and I want to try, obviously, everything to bring happiness to everyone who loves the club.”

Tottenham return to action on Saturday lunchtime when they take on West Ham in the Premier League.
